NYC2123 - issue 2

NYC2123    -    Issue 2

I have just read issue number two. In this issue of NYC2123, the main character is called Julius. He looks like this:
image
His face is a bit weird and he is wearing something in front of his eyes. As you can read from the text in the picture, in Julius' line of work you take lots of risks and be sort of an assassin. He goes to a noodle shop, to see 'Holland'. This is actually a code name and he goes to the back, down with the elevator and reaches the a part of the previous holland tunnel from which most of it had collapsed during the tsunami. What is striking is the interesting and clever way the authors of NYC2123 thought ahead of time so well. For example here:
image
The thought of a way to always be able to look through a microscope, simply by making a sort of 'glasses' of them with microscopic focus. Also the ventilators to let them work in toxic environments.
Julius collects the specimen in the bomb proof case and leaves Manhattan.
He is attacked by a man, but he has the special capability to hear, and see everything that happens around him. He is able to prevent the man from attacking him and Julius kills the man. He then sees a significant mark on the man's arm.
I found this part of NYC2123 even more confusing than the one before but I also find that some parts are really cleverly thought of. I am curious as to what the next issues will be about.

NYC2123 - issue 6

NYC2123    -    Issue 6
This issue is the next part of issue 5. It is about how the team of usher will save the world. First they leave the church and discuss what to do next: they conclude that they will first go to the lab and then pick up usher and the woman with an helicopter. Then they will go to an warm country and will release the antibiotic for the plague, this will then save the world. However at the lab of Usher, men arrived who want to kill them. Usher tells the woman to go and catch the helicopter; he will come later. However he can’t make it but luckily he says just in time: whiskey. This is the code for self-destruction of the building. They woman makes it out of the building just in time and is picked up by the helicopter. Then the men and woman go to the warm island and release the antibiotic against the plague: they saved the world.
When I would be the mayor of NYC 2123 I would definitely have to face lots of problems. But ofcourse I would do anything to stop them. One of the problems is not trust. People don’t trust each other. Another is illegal activities, like trading certain goods. But I think the biggest problem of all is different operations and firms fighting with each other. To stop this I would make a law saying that to start a firm you would first have to receive and acceptance from me, the mayor of NYC 2123, and when you don’t have one you will go to prison.

NYC2123 - issue 5

NYC2123 - ISSUE 5

I have just read issue 5 of NYC 2123. At first it was not really clear where the story was about and what was going on. But after a while I found out it was about an agent Wagner who should deliver some goods to Burtin Industries, for which they would pay a lot of money. However agent Wagner doesn’t have the goods with him for some reason and therefore the boss of Burtin industries gives him two options: either give him the goods or die. Agent Wagner comes up with a clever story and when the boss is listening agent Wagner shoots him dead. Then he tries to steal files and other useful information, he sends it to his own agencies (which also has the goods). Then agent Wagner will have to go to the church. At the same time you see how another man is killing all religious men at the church. When he sees the ‘priest’ he gets really angry. The ‘priest’ explains that Christ has send Dayenders soldiers who have been reborn to perform a holy mission, unleash a terrible plague which will cover the earth. The man gets really angry and kills the Dayender soldiers. Then when he is about to kill the ‘priests’, agent Wagner comes in and tells him to stop! To be continued….
In this fifth issue there are a lot of biblical references. They talk about how Christ wants to unleash a terrible plague, by sending Dayender soldiers to do this mission. However in the issue it does not say why they would want to do this, it does say how it want to do this. I don’t know if people would still believe in jesus in the year 2123 if it will be like issue 5, this is mainly because they say Jesus wants to destroy human being which I think nobody wants. Also the ten commandments will be different, I think, making it very hard to still believe in god. When I look at the 5th issue I think the follow ten commandments will apply:
1-    You shall have no other gods before me.
2-    I will show mercy to those who love me and believe in me.
3-    You cannot clone human being.
4-    You shall work with anyone to fulfill my missions.
5-    Honor Jesus
6-    Pay only for the things which are not yours, fight for the things which are
7-    You need to believe in your mission
8-    Keep and protect everything holy
9-    You shall not betray god
10- Believe in what god has foreseen.

NYC2123 issue 4

NYC2123    -    Issue 4

At the beginning of the fourth issue, Laney and Jake are trying to find a save place after the stealing of the squirrel (almost) failed. They end up with an old crewmember and friend called Asher. Laney and Jake didn’t bring the squirrel they had too, instead they brought a rat. Just to make sure, Asher checks whether it’s really an ordinary rat of maybe an exotic animal. Asher cannot only find the differences between different species, but also owns a collection of bodies which he keeps in an artificial climate. They use one of those bodies to create an project called Dayender. The goal of that project does not become really clear to me. However, in the end Asher finds out that the rat they brought is just an ordinary rat.
From all issues I read so far, I think this is the worse. First of all; I don’t get the whole storyline, I don’t really understand what’s going on, but what I do realise is that they are being busy with some very extraordinary actions/projects.
This issue is actually even less unrealistic than the other issues so far. There happen a lot of strange things, for example when Laney just plugs a cord of a computer into her neck and without acting like it’s abnormal. Which is then of course logical, because in their everyday life, those actions are probably very normal, but for a reader it’s very unrealistic and therefore it is very hard to imagine the whole story.

NYC2123 - issue 3

NYC2123    -    Issue 3

The 3 part of the story is about a job that Jake and his partner have to complete. They have to steal a specific kind of squirrel from someone’s private collection. First Jake drives the car but when his partner threatens him with a gun, he has to steal the squirrel and his partner has to take care of the car and make sure that Jake can enter the building safely. It seems to happens easy, because it is not a hard job for both partners to make sure Jake gets inside. As the partner of Jake already said, it goes a little too easy for Jake and as soon as he returns back to the car they are surrounded by a lot of armed motor drivers. The couple tries to get away, but the motor drivers come too close and they try to get them out of the way, but due to the fast riding car, Jake and his partner are able to escape.
Besides the fact that it’s a very unusual storyline, it’s also an illogical story. Especially the part where Laney threatens Jake him with a gun because she wants to have control over the car brought up confusion. I wondered why she did that while they are partners and they have to work together.
As I said before, this genre is not the type I use to read, because it is not really my thing. I love to get really into a story while reading it and because this whole story is very unrealistic it gets very hard to realise how I would react or what I think about it. besides that, this part of the story, issue 3, shows again the a huge amount of ‘dirty language’ which is very common in the whole story. Although it really represents the situations those people are in, I don’t like reading those words because they distract me from the text, from the main part of the particular sentence.

NYC2123 - issue 1

NYC2123    -    Issue 1

I have just read issue one and at first it was difficult to understand the story, it is still quite a weird story when reading it for the first time. However, some parts I just read for the second time and those are starting to make more sense to me.
The story is about mainly one person: Layney. At first she is together with Jake but he uses drugs and is therefore not really present in the story that much yet (in issue 1). She goes through the wall to the other side, the 'dark side' you could say. And when she enters this place, as a reader I noticed the clear difference in people. She is a lot different compared to the people living on that side of the wall.
She is a beautiful woman and she wasn't packing hardware as opposed to the people living there.
The people in this story, at least Layney, they have wifi on the inside, so I guess in their brains or something. That is also something very interesting, I would have never thought that would be possible in the future. But maybe, some day that will be possible in the far future.
Also, she actually 'moves' between digital activity happening on the internet. Through hackers, national news, advertisements, cyber sex, eBay.
I think the story goes very far into imagination, fantasy.
I find it quite hard to imagine all these things in the story happening in real life. I would rather read stories which could actually happening in reality at this moment.
However, all together, I find it an interesting story. It is not the kind of stories I like reading but I'll try my best to have a vivid imagination for these issues.
